The $1 Billion Splurge: A Look at Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s Spending

Updated: Oct 24, 2022

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is one of the greatest boxers to enter the ring. He competed from 1996 to 2007 and again from 2009 to 2017, winning 15 major world titles including the lineal championship in five weight classes.

But his game plan outside the ring has been just as aggressive when it comes to spending his cash.

Since turning pro, Mayweather's purse has topped over $1 billion — and he's spent a good chunk it on himself. Here's a glance at some of his biggest purchases.

Vehicles worthy of a champion

The fighter's penchant for blowing through money first came into focus in 2005 when he bought a $4.8 million Bugatti Veyron 16.4, which was one of the most expensive street cars available at the time.

He reportedly owns two Bugattis and two Rolls Royce Phantoms in total, the latter of which cost about $500,000 each. In 2016, he added a Pagani Huayra Roadster to his collection — but not before he purchased another three supercars: an Aston Martin DB9 Volante worth $250,000; a Ferrari F430 Spider worth around $200,000; and a Mercedes SL63 AMG that retails for an estimated price of between $110,000-$120,000.

An extravagant headquarters (multiple, in fact)

The boxer went big again in 2021 with the purchase of an $18 million Miami beach mansion.

The house is three stories tall, with an 11,000-square foot interior and a 5,000-square foot rooftop deck that offers panoramic views of the waterfront and city skyline. The two upper levels are lined with decks overlooking a patio, pool, and spa. Its private dock can also hold a boat of up to 100 feet in length.

Of course, this is only a drop in the bucket compared to his existing home in Beverly Hills, which he purchased for $25.5 million in 2017. That estate features a 15,096-square-foot main house, a four-car garage, a staff suite, and a guesthouse featuring a gym and — to top it all off — a 20-seat theater.

Luxury air transportation

No multi-millionaire would be complete without their own private jet, and Mayweather is no exception.

His personal luxury jet (adequately named Air Mayweather) came complete with flat-screen TVs, luxurious leather seats, a masseuse, and his name emblazoned on the side.

The cost for such a luxury convenience? An easy $50 million.

Million-dollar gambles

Finally, it's also rumored that Mayweather is prone to making million-dollar bets on sporting events himself. For instance, word is that he gambled $1 million on the Patriots in 2011 and followed up with another $5.9 million for the Miami Heat back in 2013. Considering the amount of cash that the retired boxer has in his bank account, any lost bets probably won't hurt his financials very much.

Conclusion

By all accounts, Mayweather is a self-made millionaire. He's a boxing legend and one of the richest athletes in the world. However, he's also known to spend his money on some pretty wild stuff — like that $50 million private jet we mentioned. If you were in his place, what would you spend your money on?
